Featured Opportunity

ROI’s Grant Writing Fellowship helps Uplands communities and organizations secure grant funding from various local, regional, state, and federal sources.
This initiative supports a network of grant writers across the Indiana Uplands who are pursuing projects and programs that improve the quality of life for residents across a variety of community needs. Fellows learn from experts how to effectively move ideas from concept to grant submission and beyond, including identifying opportunities, strengthening proposals, building partnerships, and much more. ROI will offer the Fellowship in Fall 2026 and again in Spring 2027.
Applications for the Fall cohort are due July 17, 2026.

Funding: Up to $50,000

Supports community revitalization projects that enhance public spaces, strengthen local economies, and improve quality of life in small towns.
Wish Local Empowerment Program
Funding: $500 – $2,000
Supports Black-owned brick-and-mortar retail businesses across the US in covering operating expenses such as workforce retention, rent, inventory, customer research, and community engagement.
Jeffris Heartland Fund
Jeffris Heartland Fund
Supports preservation projects in small towns and cities in the Midwest by covering 50% of the costs of a Historic Structure Report.
CreatINg Places Grant
Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority
Funding: $5,000 – $50,000 with 1:1 fundraising match requirement
Supports projects that activate underutilized public spaces or create new public spaces.
Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program
U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development
This program provides affordable funding to development essential community facilities in rural areas.
Community Heart & Soul Seed Grant Program
Funding: Up to $10,000 with a 1:1 cash match requirement
Provides start-up funding for resident-driven groups in small cities and towns looking to implement the Community Heart & Soul model.
Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program
U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development
This program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in rural areas.
Grants for Academic and Life Skills Programs Serving Youth
Ross Stores Regional Giving Program
Funding: $10,000, $20,000, or $30,000
Deadline: July 24, 2026
Supports non-profit organizations building academic achievement and life skills in economically underserved youth ages 3 to 24. Academic funding supports literacy, STEAM, tutoring, and college readiness, while life skills funding supports mentoring, financial literacy, leadership, and career readiness.
Agricultural Leadership Grant
CHS Foundation
Funding: $1,000 – $1,430,000
Supports programs that strengthen rural communities and prepares the next generation of agricultural education, leadership training, and career development for students from high school through early professional stages.
Seed Grants for Early Childhood Education Programs
Frances R. Dewing Foundation
Funding: $2,500 – $25,000
Deadlines: April 1, 2026 and October 1, 2026
Provides seed grant funding for new or experimental projects, including creative daycare initiatives, that have potential to create broader community or educational impact.
Principal Student Support Services Grant
School-Based Healthcare Solutions Network
Provides a fully funded mental health professional for each school campus who will deliver evidence-based mental health support services directly to students.
Children’s Book Project Program Grants
Funding: Up to $1,200 with a 2:1 match requirement
Deadlines: Every April 1 and October 1
Supports rural libraries to purchase new, quality, hardcover children’s books.
Employer Training Grant
Indiana Department of Workforce Development
Offers employers $5,000 per employee (up to $50,000) who is trained, hired, and retained for at least six months in select priority sectors.
Workforce Ready Grant
Indiana Department of Workforce Development
Program for individuals that covers the tuition and fees of qualifying certificate programs across Indiana.
Path to Pro Education Grants
Home Deport Foundation
Funding: In-kind support up to $10,000
Support is provided in the form of Home Depot gift cards that may be used to purchase tools, equipment, building materials, and supplies, or to support new or renovated training spaces for organizations offering vocational training in the construction industry.
Food Access and Retail Expansion Fund Grants & Technical Assistance

Supports food retailers and food enterprises proposing projects that create or expand access to staple and perishable foods in underserved communities across the US.

Provides childcare support to women working in healthcare who are mothers or primary caregivers.
Small Health Care Provider Quality Improvement Program
